Prudence Foundation’s Cha-Ching Programme wins Money Awareness and Inclusion Award

Taguig City, 21 June 2022 – Cha-Ching, the financial education programme of Prudence Foundation and Pru Life UK’s banner youth financial literacy programme, was the winner in the category ‘Best Non-profit in a Developing Economy’ at the inaugural Money Awareness and Inclusion Awards (MAIA) 2022. Prudence Foundation is the charitable arm of Prudential plc in Asia and Africa.

Marc Fancy, Prudence Foundation Executive Director said, “We are extremely proud to win at the inaugural MAIA awards. We are grateful to the judges for this recognition and to the MAIA for developing a platform that raises awareness on the importance of financial literacy.”

Cha-Ching was created in 2011 by the Prudence Foundation in cooperation with Cartoon Network, the leading children’s television channel in Asia Pacific with the creative expertise of Dr. Alice Wilder, a multi-awarded expert in educational and child psychology.

Meanwhile, Pru Life UK's Online Professional Certification Training on Financial Literacy (PRU eFinLit) was a finalist in the ‘Best Project for Under-Served Communities’ category.

Eng Teng Wong, Pru Life UK President and Chief Executive Officer shared, “Pru Life UK is a strong advocate of financial literacy in the Philippines and these recognitions are a testament of our unwavering efforts to teach the younger Filipinos the importance of making smart money decisions at a young age.”

PRU eFinLit is a free online course that aims to equip and empower Filipino professionals. It was launched in 2021 in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) - Division of Negros Occidental with educators as the program’s priority.

The finalists for the MAIA’s first ever awards came from more than 15 different countries and were chosen as the best financial literacy projects from among 150 high-quality entries received from all over the world. The MAIAs is a new entity focused on raising awareness of the many problems caused by poor financial literacy while finding the best solutions worldwide.

“We will continue to keep up our financial literacy efforts to help many more Filipinos become financially aware and independent,” said Wong.

About Cha-Ching

Cha-Ching is a financial literacy programme designed to equip 7 to 12 year olds with the knowledge, tools and practice they need to make informed financial decisions to reach their own personal goals and dreams.

A major research initiative undertaken by Prudential across Asia shows that only 13% of parents believe their children possess money management skills – though almost all parents (96%) think it is important to learn them.

Developed by Prudence Foundation with Cartoon Network Asia and children’s education expert, Dr. Alice Wilder, the storylines focus on four key concepts of money: Earn, Save, Spend and Donate. While children mostly only see Spend, Cha-Ching teaches children there is a cycle of money and choices to be made every day.
